Wednesday, we made a port stop at Limon, Costa Rica. I have never been to this port so we were excited to see what was here.
We got off the ship around 10:30 and found a small flea market right at the port. They had lots of wooden jewelry, coffee, leather, wooden art etc. there. It was fun to see all of the local arts & crafts for sale.
We didn't venture out anywhere else since the ship had told us to "be careful" and watch out for pick pockets.
We had an excursion at 12:30 for the Blue Train & Pontoon Jungle Ride. We boarded a bus that took us to where we would board the boat.

This was the local flea market....

This is across from the flea market.

This was the view from the pier of Costa Rica. It appears that it has lots of mountains...

I asked the local police If I could take their picture and they were happy to pose for the picture..

On the way to the Jungle Ride, we stopped the bus to see these two monkeys in the trees.

This was our tour guide. His name is Carlos...he was very nice and gave us lots of information...

Our pontoon boat that we took on a jungle ride through the river. It was fun.

Here we are.....

Since it was their "dry" season, we didn't see too many animals. We saw a sloth & some birds. The interesting thing about the sloth is they only come down from the trees to the waters edge once a week to go to the bathroom. Can you imagine only going to the bathroom once a week? Well, we would save a lot of time lol...They move very slowly...

This tree has bats on it...Not the ordinary black bats that we see but white bats that stick to the trees during the day and come out at night.

After we returned from the pontoon boat we boarded the bus again and it took us to where we needed to board the blue train...

WC & Georgia on the train...below is my Aunt...

We boarded the train right in the middle of a banana orchard. They told us that they put these blue bags on the bananas after they start to grow and put colored twist ties on them according to when they will be ripe. The bananas need the bags for moisture to keep them growing. Almost all of our bananas come from Costa Rica. They sell to Dole as well as Chiquita...

Their #1 crop is bananas, 2nd being pineapple and 3rd coffee...You can buy 25 bananas for $1.00 in Costa Rica....but they said you cannot live on bananas alone....

Costa Rica is very poor. They said if you made $600 per month then you were living very well... $800 if you lived in the city of San Jose....

The train passed through a community and the kids came out to wave to us. I wished I had brought some candy or something to throw to them as we passed. It was their first day of school over there. They go to school from Feb thru Nov and the have Dec-Jan off for their "summer" vacation.

A church...

The landfills have been full for a year now so there was a ton of garbage everywhere! I just can't imagine living with that much garbage outside your door....

All of the houses had bars on their doors and windows....

Another church...

I felt sorta guilty to be seeing all of this knowing that we have such a great life in the United States. I had to thank God that we lived in the US and to not to take for granted all that we do have.... It gives you a lot of perspective....

This was our little guy that was waiting for us when we went to bed that night. I just love the towel animals....when we left our room we were always excited to come back and find out what was in our room :)...
Heading towards Panama......
